Twitter TV Rankings

Our measure of the linear airtime Twitter activity for every program aired across 236 of the most popular broadcast, cable and cable sports channels in the United States. We measure the Twitter activity when it is at its highest and most relevant: three hours before, during and three hours after linear airtime of a program. We call this our +3/-3 capture window. Our capture day range is from 5 AM ET to 5 AM ET the following day.

  • Uniques: A unique user who has made at least 1 comment about a TV program.
  • Tweets: Includes tweets about a TV program, its social media abbreviations, @replies to official program or cast member accounts, mentions of key cast members, and/or other program specific keywords. For a sports event, a tweet may include any team related terms or social abbreviations, @replies to official team and player Twitter accounts and/or mentions of key player names.
  • Avg. # of Followers/Unique: The average number of Twitter followers the Uniques of a program, episode, sports event or network has. We believe this metric is important in understanding the social reach of an audience. As a result, we do not count comments made about a program by a network, program or cast members' Twitter accounts. We also cap the maximum number of followers from a unique at 10,000.
  • Avg. # of Tweets/Unique: The average number of tweets per unique user who has commented about a network, episode, sports event or network in the selected timeframe.
